5 ways to ramp up the emotion in your wedding film

Your wedding film will grow to be your most cherished momento of the day (besides your other half!)

As amazing as your wedding film will be, there are a bunch of things you and your wedding party can do on the day to make it even more special and cinematic - really crank up those emotions, and have great craic in the process!

  1. Prepare your own wedding vows

This is it. You’re stood in front of your favourite person in the whole world, ready to show them just how much they mean to you by committing to being their forever - why not tell them exactly why they’re so special! This adds a special and personal touch that will be a delight for you to look back on.

It’s important to note that in almost all church weddings personalised vows are not allowed, so make sure and discuss this with your celebrant if you’re thinking of doing it!

2. Write a love letter to your partner

Most of my couples spend the night before the wedding in separate places, so wouldn’t it be lovely to have something handwritten and heartfelt from your favourite person to wake up to? Nothing sets the “wedding day” mood like it, and it can be a real tear-jerker to look back on in years to come!

It can be a page or a paragraph - once it comes from the heart, it’s sure to have the desired effect!

3. The first look

While not a common practice in Ireland, doing a first look can create an unforgettable moment for you and your partner. The day will be hectic (believe me) and you’ll struggle to find a quiet moment to share the magic of this incredible thing that’s about to happen! The emotion of this moment never fails to catch one (or both) by surprise and I absolutely love it! Highly recommended.

4. The Bouquet Toss!

This one never fails to be hilarious and amazing craic! It gives your photo/video team an amazing opportunity to capture the chaos in ways that I guarantee will be a grin to your face every time you look back on them.

5. Dance moves!

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brings the house down like a choreographed first dance! I’ve filmed weddings where this has been implemented in all sorts of ways - one couple had an entire ballroom routine worked out, while another walked out to, and danced the first few bars (correctly, I’ll add) of Whigfield’s “Saturday Night” before collapsing into fits of laughter and embracing their first dance proper. This is so easily done and sets the dance floor alight so have a chat with your band/DJ and they can easily help you out!

Remember, this is your wedding - so make it YOURS! Whatever you decide to do, make sure to chat to your photographer and videographer about it all. The more they know, the better position they’ll be in to plan for it and capture it in all its romantic/chaotic/hilarious/cringey glory!
